In the news

Pitchfork has News on the new Stereolab EP; the titles certainly sound like the 'Lab. It'll be odd hearing them without Mary's backing vocals.

(And if you scroll up, there's a piece about a runaway backhoe demolishing Butch Vig's studio, delaying the next Garbage album. Oh, the humanity.)

And in the same issue, there's a review of the new Casiotone for the Painfully Alone record. Sounds potentially interesting (or potentially naff; who knows).

Looks like Tim Spelman (aka DJ Eurosausage) is taking over from Cameron and friends at the Rob Roy's Saturday night post-gig disco. Which sounds like it'll be more ironic, if not quite as manic. The name ("The Late Set") also sounds promising; hopefully they'll play stuff that's not old top-40 kitsch.

Music for rainy afternoons: Blueboy, Joined-Up Writing. (It works equally well in Melbourne and London)

Music for walking through Exhibition Gardens at dusk: Debbie Wiseman's score to Wilde. (In fact, it would probably work just as well in any elaborately Victorian surroundings.)

The nifty thing about high-capacity MP3 players is that you can carry the soundtrack to your life in your pocket.
