Moments in outsider music
Jul. 28th, 2005 12:55 amI was at Rough Trade today (well, yesterday, technically), and there was a strange record playing; it involved some man singing a cover of Elton John's Don't Go Breaking My Heart, badly out of tune, over a drum machine. It sounded like something off Songs In The Key of Z, or perhaps a found audiocassette that ended up in the 365 Days project; there was more than a passing resemblance to Wesley Willis or Daniel Johnston or some similar outsider artist.
It turned out to be a recent single from Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard.
