Calling the LazyWeb

I downloaded the Logic Express free trial onto my PowerBook, and have been trying to figure it out. At first glance, the UI seems opaque and cryptic, at least to a Cubase user such as myself.

Does anybody here know how to add an AudioUnit instrument to it, and how to get a MIDI channel sending data to it? Or even better: does anyone have a PDF of the manual sitting around? Never mind; it appears to come with a reference manual in the Help menu.
